Sauvie Island Kennels

Sauvie Island Kennels is a boarding and training kennel at 23200 NW Reeder Rd. in Portland, Oregon, that takes small, medium, and large dogs and boards cats in a separate cattery. For owners looking for dog boarding in Portland, it pairs traditional kennel stays with obedience and bird dog training led by experienced field trial judges.

What does a boarding stay include?

Each dog gets an indoor sleeping area with its own full outdoor run. The kennels have radiant floor heating and climate control. Daily exercise comes with every stay, and the kennel offers individualized options instead of a single routine for every dog.

• Indoor sleeping areas with full outdoor runs
• Radiant floor-heated, climate-controlled kennels
• Fenced play yards and long leashed walks
• Medication administration and special diets
• Bathing and grooming

Cats stay away from the dogs in a cattery with floor-to-ceiling condos. Households that board both kinds of pets will likely value that separation.

Who runs the training side?

Training is a big part of what sets this kennel apart. The owners are licensed AKC and AFTCA field trial and hunting test judges, and one owner is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. Programs include obedience training, upland bird dog training, board and train, and AKC Canine Good Citizen classes.

That background will appeal to owners of pointing and hunting breeds. Family dogs that just need better manners can find a program here too.
