A Canine Understanding

A Canine Understanding is a training-focused, in-home dog boarding service in Vancouver, WA, where dogs stay in a home setting and can keep working on behavior while they're there. It also offers private training and grooming. The overall approach is calm and patient, with a focus on clear communication between dogs and the people who own them.

How does in-home boarding work here?

Only a small number of dogs stay at a time, and they're integrated into a home environment. That setup allows for 1:1 attention through the day. Owners get regular photo and video updates during stays, so they don't have to wonder how their dog is settling in.

Who is this a good fit for?

It suits dogs that need more than a place to sleep while their owners travel. The board and train program covers puppy training, obedience, and leash reactivity. Behavior modification is offered for reactivity, anxiety, and aggression. Dogs that get overwhelmed in busy, noisy settings may do better in a quieter home with fewer dogs around.

What's offered?

• In-home boarding with a small number of dogs
• Board and train, including puppy and obedience training
• Behavior modification for reactivity, anxiety, and aggression
• Grooming, with Fear Free certification
• Regular photo and video updates during stays

What happens after a board and train stay?

The training continues after pickup. Each dog's return home includes a 1.5-hour go-home session, plus follow-ups. After that, owners get lifetime support by phone, text, and email whenever new questions come up.
