Paws & Rec

Paws & Rec is a family-owned facility offering cage-free dog boarding and daycare in Brooklyn, at 857 4th Avenue between the Greenwood Heights and Sunset Park neighborhoods. Dogs board without crates, and staff are on site around the clock. Grooming, training, and dog walking run out of the same address, so most of a dog's week can happen in one building.

What makes it different

The backyard is the standout. It runs more than 1,000 square feet and is surfaced with K9Grass®, which is not something most Brooklyn storefronts can offer. During warm months the dogs get water play with pools and sprinklers. Indoors is climate-controlled, so the space works in July and January alike.

Overnight care is the other thing worth knowing. A member of the family stays on the premises with the dogs through the night, and owners get text and photo updates while their dog is there. Staff are NYC Certified Animal Handlers and certified in Pet First Aid & CPR.
