Dogs at Play

Dogs at Play is a cage-free dog daycare in Eugene, Oregon, where dogs spend the day playing in supervised groups with manners training mixed in. It is open Monday through Thursday, and new clients book by phone.

What does a day at Dogs at Play look like?

Dogs split their time between indoor play space and a large, securely fenced outdoor yard covered in pea gravel. In summer, shade sails and puppy pools help them cool off. When it's time to rest, there are heat-lamp-warmed spots near an electric fireplace. Older dogs get a couch topped with dog beds for a softer place to nap.

Supervision is hands-on. Four to five dog wranglers watch the groups in the morning.

What services does it offer?

• Cage-free daycare with indoor and outdoor play
• Basic manners and obedience reinforced throughout the day
• After-hours agility classes
• Grooming services
• A new-dog interview with gradual introductions to the group

How is it different from a typical daycare?

Training is part of the daily routine rather than an add-on. Staff reinforce basic manners all day, so dogs are expected to stay polite while they play. Owners who want a well-behaved dog at home may like that steady approach.

New dogs don't simply walk in and join the pack. Each one goes through an interview first and then meets the other dogs gradually. That slower start gives a nervous dog time to settle in before the full group arrives around them.
