West Wind Retrievers & Training

West Wind Retrievers & Training is a boarding kennel and training center at 11368 Windsor Blvd. in Windsor, VA, offering overnight dog boarding for all breeds and sizes. Training is a big part of the business, with a focus on retrievers, gun dogs, and obedience work. That mix gives the place a hands-on, working-dog feel.

What is a boarding stay like here?

Dogs stay in outdoor kennels with attached dog houses and runs, and the facility has climate control. Boarders go outside to play three to four times a day. During playtime, dogs are separated by size, so a small dog won't be sharing a yard with a giant breed.

Kennels are cleaned twice daily, and blankets are provided for comfort. The kennel's own site describes its approach as caring for each dog like one of their own, with personal attention valued over volume.

• Overnight boarding for small, medium, large, and giant dogs
• Outdoor play 3-4 times per day, grouped by size
• Kennels cleaned twice daily, with blankets provided
• Medication given during the stay
• Obedience, gun dog, and retriever training

Does it suit older dogs or hunting breeds?

For geriatric pets, in-home accommodation is available at the kennel's discretion. It's worth asking about when you call if your dog needs a quieter setup.

Owners of Labradors and other hunting breeds may find this a natural fit. West Wind's training side covers hunting dog work, field trial training, and hunt test preparation, so you can ask about training while your dog is boarding.

What should owners know before booking?

Boarding runs $18 to $30 per day, based on rates listed on the kennel's website. There's a military discount for active-duty personnel. Vaccinations are required for all boarders.

Booking is done by phone at 757-353-1741. You can also reach the kennel by email at wwrt.jk@gmail.com, or look up West Wind Retrievers & Training on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
