The Lodge at West Hills Animal Hospital offers dog boarding, daycare, and grooming in Huntington, NY, next door to the animal hospital on the West Hills veterinary campus. Dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, hamsters, and rabbits are all welcome. What separates it from a standalone kennel is who else is on the property: veterinarians are on-site 24 hours a day, and trained staff supervise guests around the clock.

Medical boarding is the standout here. Pets with chronic conditions, seniors, and dogs recovering from surgery or illness stay under close supervision in the treatment area rather than in a standard run. Staff administer medications, monitor health changes, and adjust care as needed. The Lodge also has accommodations for diabetic and senior pets, plus "up-front" boarding for animals that need extra attention. A-la-carte add-ons include ice cream treats, peanut butter-filled Kongs, and photo sessions.

Practical details

Boarding requires an exam every six months from a West Hills doctor and current vaccinations. Dogs need DA2PP, Bordetella (every six months), canine influenza, leptospirosis, rabies, a fecal flotation, and a heartworm test. Cats need FVRCP, rabies, and a fecal flotation. Grooming has its own list: rabies, distemper, Bordetella, and leptospirosis.

Holiday weeks carry minimum stays, holiday rates, and a 50% deposit. Cancellations made seven or more days ahead are refunded in full, two to six days out at 50%, and inside 48 hours the deposit is forfeited.
