Marta's DEADWOOD doghouse

Marta's DEADWOOD doghouse offers dog boarding and daycare on 76 Ranch Road in Sturgis, SD, for owners in the Black Hills near Deadwood. Dogs stay overnight or come for daytime play in a renovated 4,050 square foot building with climate control and staff on site around the clock.

What services does it offer?

The doghouse offers both overnight boarding and doggy daycare. Its own description of the routine is simple. Dogs play during the day and settle into their kennels for naps and at night.

• Overnight boarding with 24/7 supervision
• Doggy daycare with indoor play space
• Three outdoor play areas, each 20' x 40'
• Medication given for dogs that need it
• Personal bedding and toys welcome from home

How are playgroups handled?

New dogs go through a behavioral evaluation before they join group play. Staff then sort dogs into playgroups by size and behavior. That way a small or shy dog isn't mixed in with a pack of big, rowdy ones. The facility describes this as checking social skills first, which should reassure owners of dogs that are still learning their manners.

What are the kennels like?

The building has 17 kennels. Some are larger 8' x 5' units meant for dogs from the same home who do better together. Owners can also pack a familiar blanket or favorite toy to help a dog settle in.
