Hot Dog on a Leash

Hot Dog on a Leash is a training-focused dog care business in Carlsbad, CA, offering overnight dog boarding in Carlsbad along with doggy daycare and board-and-train programs. Training sits at the center of what they do, so it suits owners who want their dog to come home with better manners as well as a good rest.

What services does Hot Dog on a Leash offer?

The business covers more than a place to sleep. Key services and amenities include:

• Overnight boarding at $85 per night
• Doggy daycare with cage-free play
• Dog training, including board-and-train options
• Swimming, water exercise, surfing classes, and swimming lessons
• Grooming

What makes it different from a typical kennel?

Water work is the standout. The program includes a swimming pool, water exercise, swimming lessons, and even surfing classes, which few boarding businesses offer. Dogs also have access to a 3,000 square foot play area at the San Marcos Resort.

The training philosophy is a blended one. The team describes its approach as positive reinforcement, motivation, and moderation. Good behavior earns rewards, and corrections are matched to each dog's personality, size, and age. Owners who prefer reward-only methods may want to ask about this before booking.

What is the setup like for boarding dogs?

Boarding is cage-free, and the facility lists climate control, outdoor space, and 24/7 supervision. Dogs get room to move during the day and someone keeping watch overnight.
