Crossbones Dog Academy

Crossbones Dog Academy is a dog training center at 189 Swan St. in Providence, RI, that also runs an educational dog daycare. It suits owners who want daytime care that reinforces the manners their dog is learning at home.

What does Educational Daycare look like?

The daycare is built around training rather than open free play. A typical day mixes exercise, socialization and enrichment with practice of basic manners. Dogs spend time in indoor play areas and a securely fenced outdoor yard, then settle in for crated nap time. Staffing is kept at no more than 10 dogs per staff member.

• Indoor play areas and a securely fenced outdoor yard
• Enrichment gear such as tunnels, platforms, bubbles and a ball pit
• Crated nap time so dogs rest between play sessions
• Training help for puppies, adult dogs and behavior concerns

Who handles the training?

Training is the core of the business. The team's listed certifications include CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer), KPA CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) and CBCC-KA (Certified Behavior Consultant Canine). Their methods are based on positive reinforcement. Services cover puppy training and socialization, obedience, behavior work and dog agility.

The academy's own pitch is about moving a household from chaos to calm. It speaks directly to owners dealing with leash pulling, barking in the crate or house-training accidents. The tone is practical and encouraging, aimed as much at the people as at the dogs.
