Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control
About
The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is dedicated to improving the lives of animals throughout its service areas, which include unincorporated regions and several contracted cities. Renowned for its commitment to animal welfare, DACC provides essential services aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of pets and wildlife alike. The department operates several Animal Care Centers across the county, each providing community resources and support services. Visitors to these centers can expect a welcoming atmosphere where they can interact with animals ready for adoption, while also accessing advice and assistance on various animal-related issues.
Key features of DACC include:
- Comprehensive pet adoption services with fees around $50 for dogs and cats.
- Vaccinations, microchip services, and spay/neuter programs.
- Community outreach initiatives such as the Pets Are Family (PAF) program, assisting residents with essential pet care resources.
- Seven animal care centers located in Agoura, Baldwin Park, Carson/Gardena, Castaic, Downey, Lancaster, and Palmdale, each with dedicated staff and veterinarians.
- Regular updates and success stories on animal care initiatives available through social media and the DACC website.
With operating hours from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, the centers also offer limited services on Sundays. DACC aims to educate the public on responsible pet ownership through volunteer opportunities and community engagement, ensuring that every animal in their care receives the attention and love they deserve, and promoting the importance of adopting pets instead of buying them.
