Pinehurst Animal Center

Pinehurst Animal Center is a dog boarding and grooming facility at 6500 W. Hampden Ave. in Lakewood, Colorado, offering overnight stays and day boarding for dogs of every size. Cats and small animals can board here too, which helps households with more than one kind of pet. The center describes its approach simply: treat each pet like its own and keep the place clean.

What are the kennels like?

The facility has 60 covered indoor/outdoor runs, so dogs get outdoor space along with a sheltered indoor area. The concrete floors are heated with hot water, and the building is climate controlled. Every kennel is cleaned and disinfected daily. Private suites are also part of the setup for owners who want them.

Services and amenities

• Overnight dog boarding for small, medium, large, and giant dogs
• Day boarding for dogs
• On-site grooming
• Optional 20- or 30-minute walks
• Medication administration and special diets

How does feeding work?

Food is supplied during a stay. Pinehurst feeds Black Gold, a preservative-free food, so owners don't have to pack a bag of kibble. Dogs with special diets can be accommodated, and staff can give medications.

Can a nervous dog try it first?

Yes. Pinehurst offers a free test-drive visit, a trial drop-off that lets a dog get used to the place before a longer trip. For a dog who has never boarded, that first easy visit can make the real stay go more smoothly.
