Kingdale Kennels

Kingdale Kennels offers dog boarding in Eden Prairie, MN, plus limited day boarding, from a 95-foot climate-controlled kennel building at 6574 Flying Cloud Drive. The kennel was founded in 1937 and moved to its current location in 1975. It describes itself as an outlier in the Twin Cities market: basic, lower-cost care rather than a social kennel where dogs spend the day in large groups.

How dogs are housed

Each dog gets an indoor kennel measuring 5 feet wide, 5 feet deep and 4.5 feet tall, with concrete walls and a rear door panel that lets in daylight. Every kennel connects to its own outdoor run, 5 feet by 30 feet. Dogs in the upper enclosures reach those runs by ramp, and staff control access so only one level uses the space at a time because of Minnesota's temperature extremes.

The daily routine

Dogs go outside in the morning and afternoon, with time outdoors depending on the weather. While they are out, staff remove soiled aspen shavings, disinfect the kennel, add fresh bedding and refill water. Meals follow exercise, morning and late afternoon.

Owners are encouraged to send food from home, since a sudden switch can upset some dogs' stomachs; Purina Dog Chow is on hand at no extra charge. Medications are given at feeding time, also at no charge, though the kennel cannot take dogs needing injectables or complex medical care.
