Drake Gun Dogs

Drake Gun Dogs is a working dog kennel in Boaz, AL that offers dog boarding alongside gun dog training and all-breed obedience. It suits owners who want a clean, structured place for their dog to stay, whether that dog hunts every season or mostly guards the couch.

What does a boarding stay look like?

Boarding dogs stay in spacious indoor stalls that measure 12 by 10 feet. The day runs on a steady routine. Dogs are aired three to four times daily in multiple fenced airing yards, and every dog gets exercise each day. Fresh water is checked throughout the day, and the kennel is cleaned every morning and evening.

• 12 by 10 foot indoor boarding stalls

• Cameras throughout the kennel

What sets this kennel apart?

This is a training kennel at heart. The website describes programs built one stage at a time, starting with a puppy's first exposure to birds and water and moving up to advanced field work. Training covers retrievers like Labradors and Boykins, and there is all-breed obedience for dogs that will never see a duck blind.

The trainer's stated approach is plain and direct. Teach the dog first, make the job clear, then hold it to a fair and consistent standard. That same focus on routine carries over to the boarding side, so a dog staying a few days gets the structure of a working kennel without enrolling in training.
