Dog's Retreat

Dog's Retreat is a family-owned dog boarding and daycare facility on Troy Schenectady Road in Latham, NY, where dogs stay cage-free and spend the day in open play instead of runs. Teresa Weber opened it in the fall of 2016, and her family still runs it today.

What it offers

Boarding runs seven days a week at $65 per dog per night, and that rate includes daycare. From 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., dogs roam an indoor play space and an extended outdoor turf area. Staff will feed food that owners send along, on the dog's usual schedule. Medication administration costs $3 per day.

What sets it apart

The webcam runs around the clock, so owners can look in at any hour. Dogs of every size are welcome, from small to giant, and each one is screened for aggression before signing up. The on-site salon handles baths, haircuts, nail trims and ear cleaning, plus Furminator treatments that pull out the undercoat. Grooming prices depend on breed and coat condition.

Vaccine records for rabies, distemper and bordetella go to dogsretreatlatham@gmail.com. Weekday boarding drop-off is 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with pickup until 6:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, drop-off and pickup both happen between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. or between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m.
