Canine Country Club

Canine Country Club offers home-style dog boarding and daycare in Elko New Market, MN, and is open 365 days a year. It doesn't use rows of traditional kennel runs. It works as a home environment, and the owner describes boarding dogs as houseguests.

What does a typical day look like?

Every dog gets potty and play breaks five times a day. Playtime is supervised, and staff match playgroups by personality, so a shy dog isn't dropped into the rowdiest group. Every playmate in those groups is neutered or spayed.

When the weather cooperates, dogs head to the outdoor play area, which is stocked with tennis balls, frisbees, and jollyballs. On cold or wet days, the indoor Doggie Den gives them room to burn off energy.

What services and amenities are offered?

• Cage-free overnight dog boarding
• Doggie daycare
• Supervised playgroups matched by personality
• Indoor Doggie Den and an outdoor play yard
• Supervision around the clock, 24/7

How is it different from a typical kennel?

The kennel's own site keeps its pitch simple. It focuses on fresh air, room to romp in a country setting, and a good old-fashioned game of catch instead of fancy extras. The facility is split into four wings, which helps keep guests organized during their stay. For owners whose dogs do better in a homey, active setting than in a quiet run, that approach may be the main draw.
